Judith Ashley
is the author of The Sacred Women's Circle series, romantic fiction that honors
spiritual traditions that nurture the soul.
The first special event of my trip to the 2016 Desert
Dreams Writers Conference was the day after I arrived, March 29, or the last
Tuesday of the month, which is when the monthly chapter meeting is held.
While I’ve been a member of Desert Rose since January
2008 and the 2016 Desert Dreams Conference is the fifth one I’ve attended, the
truth is I’ve never been to a chapter meeting!
That changed.
And, I was so pleased to know I had a name tag. Not
something written on a sticky “Hello” badge but a real live personal name tag.
Because I’ve been a member since 2008, I was eligible
for longevity award…a rose pin. When I return in 2018, I’ll get a second one
because I’ll have been a member for 10 years. It was great to see chapter
members with four or five roses on their name tags!!!
In addition to my membership rose, I was also eligible
for a Rose, Quill or Bead for each novel, novella or short story I’ve
published.
What a thrill to pick out my beads!!!
The Beaded Lady from Las Vegas was vending at the
conference and I bought the bracelet for the beads from her. Again, looking
forward to 2018, I’ll have a few more beads coming home with me.

I Love the beads! What a wonderful way to recognize members. Congratulations on attending your first meeting, Judith!
Thanks, Sarah! I love my beads also...and, I'm one of those people who does best with bits and pieces of recognition for making progress. I get compliments of the beads so it is a conversation starter. And, having the pin on my name badge for my first 5 years as a member? It makes it so easy to start a conversation with someone with 2, 3, 4, or even 5 beads! Much better than "what do you write?" although that is appropriate also.
Thank you for sharing. I like hearing what other chapters do to honor their faithful members. Love the idea of the beads and pins.
Aedyn, Thanks for stopping by and commenting. If your chapter doesn't already do this, please suggest it. I've found chapter leaders want to grow their chapter and support their members. I Really like wearing my bracelet whenever I do anything writing related.
